Stow Maries: Back to the WW2 Farm

  • Sat 30 Aug 2025 to Sun 31 Aug 2025

  • 10AM - 3PM

During WW2, our museum was an active farm. Come and see what it was like, through our Living History interpreters.

Don't you know there's a War on?

Join us at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome as we celebrate its role in the Second World War.

During this time, RFC and RAF Stow Maries were long gone, and the site had reverted to its traditional role - that of a farm under the careful watch of the Turner family and Flambirds Farm.

Revisiting this intreprid time, join the Living Historians as they delve into the life of members of the Women's Land Army, the Women's Volunteer Service and the daunting and powerful County War Agricultural Executive Committee of Essex!!

Visitors that want to attend in WW2 period attire - please contact info@stowmaries.org.uk to qualify for reduced admission fees!

For just your standard admission fee, you get to enjoy all they have to show and tell, as well as our range of exciting exhibitions and tours.

As part of this event, we are pleased to confirm that we will be wecolming esteemed local historian and author Mr Stephen Nunn. Mr Nunn will be presenting an illustrated talk based on the book ‘Maldon, the Dengie & Battles in the Skies (1939-1945)’.

Your admission to the event includes access to this talk - but seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis!

This event will take place on both Saturday and Sunday.

There are no Mess-Only admissions on these event days.

Propeller Club Members can enjoy this event without any admission charge.

Tickets purchased in advance will provide admission for both Saturday and Sunday of this event. Tickets are not transferable.

Stephen Nunn has a long and successful career researching and documenting the varied history of Maldon and Essex - we're very glad to be welcoming him back to Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome.

Stephen's talk will look at preparations for war on the Home Front, the establishment of Civil Defence Forces, the impact on local people, the role of RAF Bradwell Bay, air incidents and local aircraft crashes. The material is supported by research and aviation archaeology and concludes with surviving evidence of the sacrifice made by Maldon people and VE Day celebrations.
